There are people there who obviously belong there and are at ease in such a place. He calls them, "solid people." He contrasts them to the bus passengers, whom he calls, "ghosts" and insubstantial." <br /><br />The grass in the pre-heaven is soft and bendable for the solid people but is, "hard as diamonds" to his "insubstantial feet."
