Jon & Tim Foreman's Dad

Donald Miller has a great post here about parenting without 'judging.'  I want to be a good listener like Jon & Tim Foreman's dad.

In other news, we're still hanging in. School is ending for the year and so we'll hit a new stride as summer kicks in. Carly said something about a summer to do list that included ninja classes and hang gliding. Not really...more like campfires, guitars and Jane Austen marathons. Ah, summertime....

Thanks for your you all!

  1. Thanks for that link, Chris. That's really cool, and whether we meant to or not, I guess that's how we're raising our boys. The most precious times we have are when the seven of us are all just hanging around the house in the evening, laughing at each other AND the times when (especially with the older two) life happens and we get down and dirty help them through it, identifying with them in their struggles. I mean, hey, it wasn't THAT long ago we were in the same messes! :)

    Blessings to you, my friend.

  2. When I shared this article with Nate, I talked a bit about Romans 8:1 (because I feel that when we treat our kids - or anyone for that matter - like they are less of a person like this article talks about, what we are really doing in little and big ways is condemining them on some level. The article was a great reminder to NOT DO THAT! I also followed it up with this quote by Keller...

"The Bible's purpose is not so much to show you how to live a good life. The Bible's purpose is to show you how God’s grace breaks into your life against your will and saves you from the sin and brokenness otherwise you would never be able to overcome... religion is 'if you obey, then you will be accepted'. But the Gospel is, 'if you are absolutely accepted, and sure you’re accepted, only then will you ever begin to obey'. Those are two utterly different things. Every page of the Bible shows the difference." - Tim Keller

Thanks for sharing that - it sparked some great conversations - I also shared it with our small group. (I am ALL ABOUT NO CONDEMNATION BROTHER!) Love in Christ, Kim

  3. Oh - one more thing - a great article on beer posted on our SixTen site when you get a chance. We've been missing your comments bro! (I know all of this "bro" stuff is a little annoying, but it is only a phase I am going through after reading the beer article - my new favorite saying is: "good for you bro" - read the article and you will learn why - hilarious! Love you bro! Love in Christ, Kim
